A Soccer Player Hit by Lightning During Match Survives

"The trouble ain't that there is too many fools, but that the lightning ain't distributed right." - Mark Twain

The bad thing about lighting is you don't know when and where it might strike. A soccer player named Joao Contreras Fuentes got struck by lighting while playing in a Copa Peru soccer game. It was a near fatal lighting bolt, it strikes quickly and was gone instantly barely even visible to the naked eye. It was captured on video.

Watching the video clip you will see Fuentes just standing and waiting for the match to start. After a few seconds, he was falling backward onto the ground as if he was hit by a bullet. You will see some white smoke after he was hit. He was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead which is not the case. It must be a bad information. He was alive.

Trome, a Peruvian news site, said Fuentes will be spending a couple of days recovering, but he should be fine. Hospital director Thomas Párraga said "The lightning broke through his face, pierced the chest and exited through his left calf, without damaging the heart."
