Forward Christen Press, soccer, US women's soccer team

BRASILIA, Brazil - Forward Christen Press had a field day scoring goals she got four, while Carli Lloyd was able to do a hat trick leading the United States women’s soccer team against Argentina 7-0 in the Brasilia Tournament on Thursday, December 18. The win will secure their place in the final of the four-team contest.

The U.S. got some help from host Brazil when they were able to beat China 4-1 despite resting 5 time world player of the year Marta and other regular starters. A draw would have eliminated the US team. The final will be played Sunday at the Mane Garrincha Stadium.

The tournament serves as preparation for the 2015 World Cup in Canada, in which Brazil, China and the U.S. have qualified.

A Soccer Player Hit by Lightning During Match Survives

"The trouble ain't that there is too many fools, but that the lightning ain't distributed right." - Mark Twain

The bad thing about lighting is you don't know when and where it might strike. A soccer player named Joao Contreras Fuentes got struck by lighting while playing in a Copa Peru soccer game. It was a near fatal lighting bolt, it strikes quickly and was gone instantly barely even visible to the naked eye. It was captured on video.

Watching the video clip you will see Fuentes just standing and waiting for the match to start. After a few seconds, he was falling backward onto the ground as if he was hit by a bullet. You will see some white smoke after he was hit. He was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead which is not the case. It must be a bad information. He was alive.

Trome, a Peruvian news site, said Fuentes will be spending a couple of days recovering, but he should be fine. Hospital director Thomas Párraga said "The lightning broke through his face, pierced the chest and exited through his left calf, without damaging the heart."

Juninho Helped Galaxy to MLS Cup final

Juninho made a goal to tie the game early in the 2nd half that helped the Galaxy secure a trip to the MLS Cup final, the conference final game against the Seattle Sounders ended 2-2 (2-1)on aggregate Sunday night. There were fireworks and confetti while Landon Donovan and his team was awarded the Western Conference championship trophy.

Donovan said that "I'm sort of just in this moment right now." "I just want to prepare myself for one last week and do everything I can to help this team win. I really want to go out a champion." Donovan wants to end his career a champion, he has one more game to play before he retire and MLS Cup final will be held next weekend on his home field.

Seattle Sounder was able to win the 2nd-leg 2-1, however road goals were applied as a tiebreaker in the MLS Cup playoffs for the 1st time in the current season and Galaxy took advantage of it after a 1-0 win in the 1st-leg last weekend. Brad Evans and Clint Dempsey were able to hit a goal for Seattle in the initial 32 minutes. Galaxy were trailing 2-0 at halftime. Juninho (LA Galaxy) right footed shot from outside the box to the bottom left corner which is also his first goal since September 21, 2013 kept Donovan's career alive for one more game.
