A Soccer Player Hit by Lightning During Match Survives

"The trouble ain't that there is too many fools, but that the lightning ain't distributed right." - Mark Twain

The bad thing about lighting is you don't know when and where it might strike. A soccer player named Joao Contreras Fuentes got struck by lighting while playing in a Copa Peru soccer game. It was a near fatal lighting bolt, it strikes quickly and was gone instantly barely even visible to the naked eye. It was captured on video.

Watching the video clip you will see Fuentes just standing and waiting for the match to start. After a few seconds, he was falling backward onto the ground as if he was hit by a bullet. You will see some white smoke after he was hit. He was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead which is not the case. It must be a bad information. He was alive.

Trome, a Peruvian news site, said Fuentes will be spending a couple of days recovering, but he should be fine. Hospital director Thomas Párraga said "The lightning broke through his face, pierced the chest and exited through his left calf, without damaging the heart."

Mick Jagger Doomed Brazil by Rooting for them

Mick Jagger, Brazil, World Cup
Mick Jagger, Brazil, World Cup

Brazilians are blaming Mick Jagger for the Brazil's worst lost in the World Cup History, they lost to Germany 7-1. Mick Jagger was rooting for Brazil to win the game he even watched the game with his son who was wearing Brazil kit.

Too bad for Brazil Mick Jagger has a bad reputation of giving the team that he is supporting bad luck. Back in 2010 World Cup that was held in South Africa he was at the game supporting England, they lost to Germany 4-1 in the elimination round. He also predicted that Italy would defeat Uruguay to reach the elimination round but it was Uruguay who won 1-0. Then he said that Portugal will win and reach the round of 16, they didn't they were eliminated in the group stage.

When England was against Uruguay, he said on Twitter: "Let's go England! This is the one we win!!!" They lost to Uruguay 2–1.

World Cup 2014 coverage USA lost to Belgium 2-1

I've called it last night that USA will lose to Belgium 2-1!  And it was an intense game, in the 2nd half stoppage time, US was so close and nearly won the game that would have sent them to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002. Unfortunately, US had a terrible miss and some confusion about a call that might or might not have occurred.

U.S. striker Chris Wondolowski got in the game as a substitute in the 72nd minute, was in a great position to score very close to the goal. Midfielder Jermaine Jones pass the ball through a header to a free Wondo with a very reasonable spacing and with Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois not in a position to catch or deflect the ball. And he missed!

World Cup 2014: USA vs. Belgium

USA, Belgium, World Cup 2014

It is not do-or-die match between USA and Belgium and I'm definitely certain this will be an exciting game. Too bad this game will be held at 4 p.m. ET, where you at, at that time? Like every hard working American, at work. FIFA app or the ESPN app will come in handy this time, be sure you have it installed in your smartphone or you'll be sorry.

I also heard on the news that U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann is not a fan of Algerian referee that will officiate this game named Djamel Haimoudi. Haimoudi has officiated two African Cups of Nations and a couple of early World Cup 2014 games. The coach said that Haimoudi is a French speaker and he can speak to the Belgians well which may give them an advantage. In my opinion, that's a silly reason. World Cup 2014 is a world sport, don't expect that everyone speaks your language.

I got a bad feeling that US will lose this game, I'm calling it 2-1 Belgium.

World Cup 2014 match preview: Argentina vs Iran

World Cup 2014 match preview Argentina vs Iran, soccer

Group F: Argentina vs. Iran
Time:   12 p.m. ET, Saturday, June 21

Argentina can control Group F if they beat Iran, then they will be up against the runner-up of Group E. Argentina's greatest advantage is Lionel Messi, he is in his best everytime he steps on the pitch.

Argentina's performance against Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-1 was not great eventhough they won. They got a bonus goal three minutes into the match, and then got superb performance from superstar Lionel Messi. Their defense was not good, and their offense was timid.

Argentina has a lot of gunners besides Messi, so Iran should control them if they want to win the game.

Brazil’s World Cup Violence Continues

One of the world's biggest game the "World Cup" will take place in Brazil everyone is upbeat, but the realities in Brazil is not so good. Stadiums are still in construction and roads and airports are not yet done. There are poor infrastructure to support the wave of people that will go to Brazil to watch the most anticipated sporting event. Internet and communication services are slow.

Poor people turn up in streets to protest about the "World Cup", they are telling the government of Brazil that they don't need it, what they need is food and decent jobs.

"Nao Vai Ter Copa is now their battle cry. There Will Be No World Cup. People want bread, not circuses. It’s OK to love the game, but hate the event."

FIFA, is not amused, about what is happening in Brazil. This is certainly a black eye for Brazil, people will think twice if they will spend their hard earned money to go to Brazil and watch the games.

Lionel Messi, Barcelona Barca, football, soccer

Lionel Messi hit a perfectly executed free kick to help Bercelona secure a 2-1 comeback win for their injury-hit team. The win keep their title hopes alive for a fifth La Liga title in six years.

After disappointing losses, they got knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid, then losing the Copa del Rey final to Real Madrid, beaten in the King's Cup final by Real Madrid and suffered a shock 1-0 reverse at lowly Granada in La Liga, to Barca fans this win is a badly needed morale-boosting victory in front of their fans at the Nou Camp.

Adidas and Nike is having a marketing war as we head to the 2014 FIFA World Cup that will be held in Brazil and will start on June 12, 2014.

Both companies dominates the soccer kit industry that is worth more than $5 billion annually. They want to become the leader in hi-tech boots and jerseys to fans inspired by Argentine Lionel Messi (Adidas) and Brazilian Neymar (Nike).

Adidas Chief Executive Herbert Hainer said: "Forget all you may have heard or written about a weak Adidas performance in football in 2013. We are leading this category that is so close to the Adidas DNA."

"2014 is a football year and it will be an Adidas football year."

Adidas is targeting to reach a record annual soccer-related sales of 2 billion euros ($2.8 billion).

However, competition in this market is cut-throat since Nike which have $2 billion revenues from sport is upping up their game in soccer-related market. They will be providing kits for hosts Brazil and a total of 10 of the 32 finalists this year beating out Adidas and Puma.

Nike Brand President Trevor Edwards said that they will increase their sales since the World Cup is in Brazil.

"We couldn't be more excited about the World Cup being in Brazil. It will resonate around the world".

We will also see new boots technology that have bafefoot feel. Nike launched their new Magista boot that is based on Flyknit technology in which the upper part of the boots is made from knitted synthetic strands of material. It is a lightweight boots that is also durable. However, it's not cheap it will cost you $275.

Adidas for their part has launched "Samba" versions of its four main boots and will present its first "knitted" boot in mid-March.

While Puma wants their products to shift back to performance sports and away from fashion by launching a snug-fit bright orange "evoPOWER" boot with yellow laces offset to one side.

"It inspired by barefoot beach soccer in Brazil," Torsten Hochstetter, Puma global creative director said.

Neymar's ankle injury looked grisly, it appears to be twisted to the back. This happened in their Copa del Rey match against Getafe. Neymar attempted to secure and save the ball that's about to go over the endline, he landed awkwardly that he lost his balance. It's good to know that although it appears to be serious, the initials results indicated that it's only a sprain.

Lionel Messi is back from injury that kept him sidelined for 2 months, he scored twice. He now have a total of 4 goals over the two legs against Getafe that sends Barcelona to the quarterfinals on a 6-0 aggregate score.
