Canada defeated Australia 2-0 in Women's soccer. Janine Beckie of Canada recorded the fastest goal, she scored 20 seconds into the Canada's Olympic opener against Australia. Beckie’s goal is the fastest in Olympic soccer history, men’s or women’s. The men’s record is held by Mexico’s Oribe Peralta.

Beckie, 21 plays soccer in the United States for the Houston Dash of the National Women’s Soccer League. This game was her Olympic debut. In the first game, Sweden beat South Africa, 1-0. U.S. soccer team will meet New Zealand on Wednesday at 6 p.m. EST.
